Biography
I am a UK based published graphic novelist and comics historian. With over twenty years’ experience as a freelance illustrator since 2009 I have been working specifically with the comics form. I have extensive experience of delivering comics workshops, both nationally and internationally in a variety of contexts to people of all levels. Since 2014 I have taught on Art and Design undergraduate courses at London College of Communication (University of the Arts, London), Central Saint Martins (UAL), Kingston University and Brighton University and on courses at The Creative Writing Programme, Brighton. My work mentoring artists individually has been a central element of my role in developing and delivering outcomes for the British Council “Creating Heroines” project since 2018. From 2022-2023 I was lead partner in REVEAL! Women comics E Africa – UK, a British Council International Collaboration funded project. I have sat as judge on the Myriad First Graphic Novel competition, for the Laydeez Awards prize and for the CWIP graphic novel prize.
ENDORSEMENTS
Nicola’s LDC mentoring session was hugely helpful for the development of my collection of comic strips – FML Comics. Not only did she suggest page by page improvements, but she also gave me useful professional information about the UK Comics industry and advised me on how to take my project forward. I would not be published by Good Comics if not for LDC and Nicola Streeten.
